Jazz at Lincoln Center Shanghai.. small space, big heart, and a savage value-punch to the wallet. Compared to the Peace Hotel Old Jazz Bar (which is constantly hailed like it’s sacred ground), this joint doesn’t charge you for breathing. Your seat is close enough to see musicians sweat, hear strings vibrate, and feel the trumpet’s lip buzz in your chest. The wood-panels echo a warmth that velvet-draped halls only dress themselves in, and you don’t need to sell your kidney to afford a drink. The lighting is cozy-dim, the stage modest but proud, and every solo feels like it’s auditioning just for you. While the Peace Hotel might bathe in nostalgia and overpriced cocktails, here you get real jazz, real sweat, real emotion. Overrated luxury has its place, but Jazz at Lincoln Center reminds you why intimacy matters, when you can hear every breath, smell every exhale, and share a laugh with a stranger who’s equally moved.

I personally play di-zi and flute, and I never expect Er-wu can be blended with a Jazz band in such an harmonious way. Brilliant!! An eye opening experience!

If you’re looking for a Jazzy night in Shanghai, this may hit the spot. An alternative to the black tie like pricing at Peace Hotel with a more casual ambient. Priced at appx RMB158 for 7:30 ~ 9:30pm (half an hour break). Conveniently located near the Nanjing Walking road.
